Dundee Candidates Sign “On This We Agree” Declaration

“There may be things on which we disagree but on this we agree.” Candidates from three parties who will be standing in Dundee have signed the On This We Agree declaration on independence which the Scottish Independence Convention has launched in the run-up to the Holyrood elections.

Heather Anderson, SNP candidate in Dundee West, commented: “Elections involve competition but it is good to have some space for cooperation, We may disagree on how best to achieve independence but we all want to get there.” Heather has been a City councillor since 2017 and is Convener for Environment and Climate. She was an organic farmer for twenty years.

Alan Ross from The Alba Party has fifteen years experience as a councillor in Dundee with a long involvement in community projects.

Liberate Candidate in Dundee East, Allan Petrie, also has long City Council and community campaigning experience.

Martyn Day, the Convener of the Scottish Independence Convention, which was formed in 2006 to encourage cooperation among independence-supporting parties and groups, explained the aims: “I think it sends a good message to the public. It shows that there is a core case for an independent Scotland and the right of the Scottish people to decide and that we can share that message while accepting that there are differences. We will be asking independence-supporting candidates and some in other parties to sign-up before the Holyrood elections. I am sure the majority of Scottish voters would find no difficulty in supporting this Declaration.”
